Maybelle the Cable Car
Burton, the Caldecott Medal winner, represented the ""save the cable car"" event happened in San Fransisco with poetic, concise, vivid words and beautiful pictures. People organized on their own a ""Citizen Committee of Saving the Cable Car"" and solved the dispute of whether the cable car should be kept or not by parade, public speeches, and at last a public vote. Citizens of Sanfransisco through positive and reasonable ways solved the problem, which gave a proper definition of the word ""democracy"". It tells us that slogans mean nothing at all and only by us recognizing where we are living and what responsibilities we are shouldering can democracy live on in a true sense.
